On Fountain
$60.00
In 1998, at the age of 23, Wilfred Brandt relocated from the U.S. Midwest (where he was born and raised) to Los Angeles for an internship in television at a daily cable comedy show called Talk Soup. By day, he watched videotapes of TV talk shows like Jerry Springer and Sally Jesse Raphael, and by night he explored the gay leather bars of Silver Lake (whilst still very much in the closet). With some flashbacks to his formative same sex college experiences while living in Chicago, ‘On Fountain’ is a hybrid work interspersing essays on topics ranging from indie rock to queer culture with a first person narrative about the terrifying freedom that comes from being alone somewhere new and reinventing yourself, set in the fading years of analogue before cellphones became commonplace and the Internet ubiquitous.
